About Us

Operation Will was born from the resilience and vision of SGT. Brentney Williams (U.S. Army, Retired). A proud Houston native and Black Veteran, Brentney’s journey is defined by her dedicated service, including two combat tours in Iraq totaling 28 months on the ground. While her first 15-month tour tested her resolve, it was her second 13-month deployment that changed the trajectory of her life. The loss of two Black battle buddies in combat left an indelible mark, leading Brentney to face the grueling realities of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sleep disturbances, self-esteem challenges, and substance abuse. Upon returning home to Houston, she discovered a critical gap in support. While the Department of Veterans Affairs provides broad assistance, there was a profound lack of specialized resources tailored to the unique cultural experiences and needs of Black Veterans.

The decision to serve as a Black person in the United States military is a testament to extraordinary heart, strength, and loyalty. After navigating her own recovery through intensive therapy and a powerful support system, Brentney recognized that her service didn't end with her retirement—it shifted toward a new objective: ensuring no other Black Veteran feels forgotten. At Operation Will, we are anchored by the "Each One, Teach One" mindset. We believe that education and shared experience are the keys to collective healing. By empowering our people and providing culturally resonant support, we ensure that the transition from the battlefield to civilian life is a journey no Black Veteran has to walk alone.
